Rainbow

Life is a rainbow

Of multi coloured hues

And after the deluge

Our soul ascends again

Just as surely as the majestic rainbow

Spreads it technicolour glory

Across heavy clouds of gun metal grey

There are these things

Obstacles which so often seem to eclipse

Our memory of the joyful song

Our inner self can sing

Once it finds again

Wings of light

Gaining real strength and power

To ascend above the travails of night

That we had to endure along the road of life

Who knows what darkness gathers

Spreading its heavy shroud upon us

Weighting our souls underneath

Its burden of care

Making us forget

How close the spirit of life is to us

Yes even in times of death

For what has arisen must pass

What is falling must again rise

Or find its new dawn

And when we cower falter and fawn

As we must at times in fear of our pain

We forget too

That there is something so precious

Lingering still

Deep inside of this

And on the other side of transformation

That something

Is revealed as a gift

We can only receive

After understanding at depth

The power that our wounds have

To keep us trapped

In the darkness

Allowing nothing new a possibility

To take root or blossom around us

Out of the wreckage

Of our broken past
