Sister
You are beautiful I love you so much
I feel your struggle so deeply in my heart
And I want you to know
As long as you need me I will be here
The path we have travelled
Has led us into so many wildernesses
And there were times we fought
I craved your love
So much
But was just a nuisance
As you were growing
And had not time for a pesky young sis
But still I fought for you
When I could
When Mum sold your piano
Because the Nun’s abuse
Swore you off playing what they called ‘The Devil’s Music’
It was only Dean Martin
And you wanted to play it for Dad
Yesterday we shared how they hurt you
And of the way you struggled to get away
So many things about you I never knew before
And now as you falter on the precipice
After the loss of our Mum
Feeling as though the enormity of this new step forward
Is entirely too much
I want you to know I will be here
Because I am finally realising
Perhaps there is a way to be present in love
With a fully open heart
And still live my life
For this I know for sure
Our love for our family never ends
Even when it meets with
Challenging circumstances
And out of this fire
Of struggle and loss
We are weathering
We are forged
Into stronger, braver and more loving souls
