Daughter of Icarus

Reflections on Existence

he looked at me and said,

“don’t settle”.

you are made

of a fierce mettle,

woman,

you have long to live,

strong.

life is a fearsome thing,

yet never forget,

as a mother and lover

the power you bring”.

his tatoo winked,

and i saw the grief,

of broken promises and lies.

“choose yourself instead”,

he said,

“and never tread water

when you know you how to fly“.

Penelope was the daughter of Icarus and wife of Odysseus. She fought off suitors and doubt for seven years while he was with Calypso…resolute.
