Open river flowing between us

Flesh upon flesh

Each beating quietly

Feeling each other’s soul

Present in the silence

So many battles between you and I

I did not know what I carried

To have what you could never give me

And it seems to me now

I wandered for years

Being pushed away I learned it was easier

Not to seek comfort

To distrust connection

And seek validation

In all the wrong places
