Upswing : down drag
Two opposing forces
One gives life and urges us to flight or fight
The other steals life from us
Wanting to drown us
In its undertow
To drag us down
Under a dead weight
Or a wall of water
Feelings: you so often are
The force that makes our soul soar
(Over vast horizons)
Or sore
With wounding of desire
That sheer tide or torrent of love stolen
Threatens to take us under
Riptide of longing pulling us back
To barren places
Rendering us ghostlike
Phantoms
Wandering in dark forests lost
With dread thoughts
Possessing us
Dragging on our souls
At night
Making slumber seductive, waking difficult
And living fully impossible in the day
You bring clouds to steal our sunshine
And dampen our fire
Leaving in your wake
A heavy heart
Up swing : down drag
Two opposing forces
Tearing on us humans
Engaging us in battles
Playing out across decades
And through relationship
As we continue this mixed up crazy journey
Of life
I’ve been reading about fluid dynamics and the mathematical criteria for a wave breaking, when the wave height is more than one seventh of the wave length. There are different kinds of breaking waves – spilling, plunging, collapsing, surging – but although they collapse in different manners there is only so much height a wave can sustain before it comes crashing down.
