Long gone

I went through days

living with the reckoning

that you are gone from me

gone gone, long gone

down a corridor of years

that echoes with longing

and bittersweet memories

of times

our souls and bodies touched

only then to be flung apart

by forces we knew not

now left here

festering in this slowly beating breast

are memories

shards of recollection

that throw silvery shadows

across time

reminding me of an empty longing place

once filled

sometimes by tenderness

often by agony

which made my soul

swell and ache

oh breaking heart

help me to let go

what must be left behind

so that now

what is gone gone gone

along a corridor of years

can disappear

old pain

that steals
