Love is there

compassionate

Love is there

Hiding under the compost in our backyard

Even when things smell

And you don’t want to go near

Love is there sending up poisonous vapours

From beneath where

Hate buried it under ashes and food scraps

Love may seem absent

But if you reflect on it deeply enough

You will find the empty space love left

When its longing to flow and connect

Was cut off

There in that compost heap

Love is working deep within our souls

To put things to rights

Often your expression of love is not mine

My expression of love is not yours

But love is still there

Can we let down our defences

Surrender our own perceptions

Just long enough

To find it?
